Welcome to the Quack and Shack!!!
A short drive away from the heritage coast will bring you to 4 acres and 3 ponds nestled in the idyllic Suffolk countryside. You will find a range of well appointed, hand finished cabins, all with quirky touches designed to delight and enjoy. Guests will be immersed in a truly rural experience but with the comfort of modern amenities. A picturesque twenty minute stroll from two of Suffolk’s finest pubs.
Come and relax in privacy on the wildlife haven that is “Quack and Shack”. With great crested newts, barn owls, and water voles, there’s plenty to see
Put some logs on the firepit, sit back and watch the stars. Take a few days out to unwind, reflect, and breathe. .
Laxfield came to be in Saxon times and is registered as having a population of 250 in the 1086 Domesday Book. In 1226 Laxfield received a market charter and was the first village in the surrounding area to receive the honor. A tradition that still continues on the first Saturday of every month to this day. Laxfield is positioned 5 miles to the west of Halesworth on relatively flat agricultural land.
The wide main street is home to some fascinating old buildings, most notable the church of All Saints (the top of which can be seen from Quack and Shack) and the wonderfully atmospheric Guildhall.Further along High Street, beside the Baptist Church, is a memorial to John Noyes, a shoemaker who was burned at the stake for his Protestant faith in 1557, during the reign of Queen Mary. At the western edge of the village, past the war memorial, is the site of the Mid Suffolk Light Railway station.
All in all it is a very sleepy honest Suffolk village, full of some wonderful places and indeed characters to boot.
Laxfield has two great pubs! The Royal Oak and the Low House (Kings Head). These are 20 minutes walk from the field and well worth a visit. The Royal Oak is a 15th century coaching inn and on the inner face of the chimney inside the pub you can see witches marks, carved symbols which were supposed to keep witches away. The Low House is a very special experience with traditional pub settles and to this day has a tap room as opposed to a bar.
The Laxfield Coop – Perhaps the friendliest shop in Suffolk. 1 minute drive or 20 mins walk you will find an excellent village shop. Whether you need some pastries or a full roast dinner this shop has it all. It is also the local post office if you need some cash. Open until 10.00pm every night apart from Christmas day this shop is super convenient for the Quack and Shack.
Neil Graystons Hardware – Step back in time and go and see Neil (lovely chap). Anything you could possibly imagine and customer service second to none. Worth a trip even if you don’t need anything.
Framlingham – Has a great Saturday morning market and we can highly recommend the Common Room Cafe. Framlingham castle is certainly worth a visit and there are some fantastic walks around the college and castle.
Woodbridge- This is the largest town on our list. Located on the river deben, there is a wonderful riverside promenade for an afternoon stroll. The tidemill museum is defiantly worth a visit and the high st is adorned with independent shops.
Aldeburgh- A quintessential English seaside town. Wonderful fish and chips. Lots of high end independent shops. Amazing coastal path to Thorpeness (20mins walk) and a fabulous boating lake when you get there.
Southwold- Another gem of a coastal town with an amazing pier. Full of independent shops and plenty of pubs serving the local ale. Great bakeries and the little fish and chip shop is a must.

A perfect retreat in the Suffolk Countryside. John’s hut was just what we needed. The setting is so quiet and peaceful and we were fortunate to have the place to... read more ourselves. It was super cosy with the fire lit and had everything we needed for a weekend away ☺️

An absolutely amazing property and overall experience.
The photos don't do it justice, John has done an incredible job in creating a beautiful and tranquil space to get away... read more from it all and be surrounded by nature. Check in was easy, the property was clean and the kitchen equipment was better than mine at home! The outside bath is also a delight that you won't find in many other places. I can't recommend it enough and will certainly be returning. I will also be personally recommending this property to everyone I know.Jessie
